Position: Executive Director

Schedule: Part-Time (10-15 hours)

Scuola Italiana di Portland, a not-for-profit language school in Portland, OR is searching for an
Executive Director to join our community. We are searching for an individual who is passionate
about the Italian language, culture, traditions and more. The Board of Directors is looking for an
individual who will increase community outreach, fundraising and marketing efforts to further
promote and raise awareness for the school in our community. The Executive Director will also
work closely with our Administrator who manages day-to-day school operations.

Position Reporting Details:
 Reports to the Board of Directors.
 Provides updates to the Board on a regular basis and seeks approval from the Board when
needed.
 The Executive Director will also be an ex-officio member of the board of directors.

Responsibilities:
This position has the overall responsibility of executing the mission, goals and objectives of the
school as determined by the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include:
 Maintaining current programs and promoting them to increase participation.
 Leading fundraising efforts to maintain the school’s current programs.
 Recruiting teachers for faculty when needed.
 Developing marketing and fundraising strategies.
 Increasing the school’s grant funding.
 Creating partnerships with local cultural organizations to create/co-create events.
 Ensuring compliance with personnel policies, State and Federal regulations on workplaces
and employment.
 Supervising and working closely with the school’s Administrator position
 Supervising bookkeeping function to ensure financial reports are accurate and delivered to
the Board of Directors
 Representing the school at public events and in the media when needed
 Executing legal documents

Required Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, business, journalism, communication, media,
education, marketing or equivalent professional experience with BA
 Ability to take direction and work independently.
 Commitment to creating a safe workplace.
 Excellent interpersonal skills
 Proficient with Microsoft tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
 Eligible to work in the US.
 Limited local travel, occasional evening presence required for cultural events.
Desired Profile:
 5 years’ experience managing a small to medium size non-profit or equivalent
experience.
 Excellent general management and financial track record
 Results-oriented
 Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with donors, partners, staff,
community and Board members.
 Entrepreneurial spirit
 Creativity, innovation, curiosity and passion for education, foreign languages and
cultures
